The James Ossuary (Oded Golan collection (unprovenanced), Ossuary 1st century AD; inscription disputed). A limestone bone-box carrying the Aramaic inscription "Jacob (James), son of Joseph, brother of Yeshua (Jesus)." If the whole inscription is ancient it is the earliest artefact naming Christ; if the last two words were added in modern times it is the most consequential forgery in biblical archaeology. Neither has been demonstrated. All three names were extremely common in first-century Jerusalem, so even an authentic inscription would not by itself identify this family.
