Codex Marianus (Old Church Slavonic Gospels) (The Cyrillo-Methodian tradition, c. AD 1000, from a 9th-century translation). Cyril and Methodius invented an alphabet in order to translate the scriptures, and the language they wrote became the liturgical tongue of Slavic Christianity. This Glagolitic Gospel book is one of the oldest witnesses to that translation.
